Product Review: Thigh Society Cooling Anti-Chafe Slip Short Underwear

I debated for a year about purchasing these. Anything form-fitting rarely fits my body. I hate close-fitting garments that pull up into my crotch because there isn’t enough room for my thighs or buttocks. I kept seeing positive comments on Wardrobe Oxygen, and even though Alison is a different body type from me, I finally decided the discomfort of bike shorts was worth risking losing the cost of one pair of Thigh Society cooling anti-chafe shorts. 

I’m so glad I took the risk! At the time of ordering, I had 49-inch hips. That put me right at the end of the L/XL size. I debated going up a size since clothing rarely has enough room for my 30-inch thighs. Figuring I would have a better chance at some sort of resolution if I ordered according to their size chart and they didn’t fit, I ordered the L/XL size.

​When they arrived, I was dubious. I know nylon knits are very stretchy, but these only measure 13.25 inches across. How on earth would that fit my body!? Deciding that since I already paid for them, I may as well try them on, I gingerly inched them into place.

Wait a minute! These not only fit, they don’t try to crawl into the deepest recesses of my crotch, either. How is that possible? Whatever the technological marvel was, I had found a pair of under-skirt shorts that felt comfortable on my body.

Over the next several weeks, I took them on ever-increasing stress tests. First, I wore them over underwear as I went out and about. They didn’t crawl up my thighs or give me a wedgie or do anything else uncomfortable. 

Next, I wore them to drive a long distance before walking around town on a hot and humid day. So comfortable! Even while sitting for over an hour, they did not bind or pinch. The one downside is that the crotch does have an absorbent lining, so that particular area holds moisture just as much as cotton underwear would. That’s the one part of these shorts that won’t keep you cool and dry.

Finally, I wore these as underwear on a hot and steamy afternoon running errands. Again, they were comfortable for sitting for over an hour and for walking. They may have been slightly more dry and cool at the crotch, but the day wasn’t as humid as the previous test, so it’s hard to say. Personally, I won’t wear them as underwear again. The absorbent section is a little too far back to be useful to me and the front seam chaffed a little on my tenderest skin, but each body is different, so they may work perfectly for you.

Question: Can you see the seams under your clothes?
Answer: These shorts are thin and invisible under skirts.

Question: Do skirts cling and ride up?
​Answer: I did find that some fabrics cling to them, but I have a slip made from swimsuit-lining fabric and one of lingerie tricot and they slide over the shorts without problems.

Question: Do Thigh Society cooling shorts make a sound while walking?
​Answer: The fabric makes a soft swishing sound when the thighs rub while walking, but I don’t think it’s loud enough for anyone else to notice. Even if they do, thin and cool anti-chafe shorts that fit my hips and thighs are so rare that I’m willing to live with the slight noise.

Question: How high is the waistband on a short petite body?
​Answer: The waistband sits right below the navel of this four-foot, 11-inch tall body. 

Question: Are Thigh Society anti-chafe cooling shorts good for a pear-shaped petite?
Answer: They fit comfortably on my 4-foot, 11-inch-tall body with a 35-inch waist at the navel, 49-inch hips, and 30-inch thighs. 

Final Verdict

I would buy another pair without reservation.
