I’m so excited to finally publish this Advent/Christmas song! This arrangement of "That's Why You Were Born" is in hymn style and has a refrain that is easy to learn.
Performance Suggestions
Assign a soloist or section solo to each verse. Have the full choir and congregation sing the refrain and ending.
Have the choir sing while actors perform the story told by the verses. This would be a good option for a Christmas Pageant. Of course, the carol can also be sung as-written with the full choir/congregation all the way through. Interpretation Notes
I left out dynamic markings so that the score would fit on one page without the text being distractingly tiny. I suggest getting softer as you move through measure three, then using all kinds of dynamics to really tell the story and separate characters throughout the verses. Measures 11 to the end should be triumphant and end forte or louder. I envision hitting measure 11 at forte, as a strong contrast to measures 9-10, but use your musical intuition to create a meaningful experience for your performers and listeners.
Coming Soon
If this modern sacred Christmas song interests you, keep an eye out for “A Gift to Us Was Given,” coming as soon as I get a chance to format and post it.
More complex arrangements are in the works. I also have some ideas for making music theory worksheets out of this. We’ll see what I have time for. So many ideas, so little time! Buy Now
